Compass Connections Cafe

Whoever said you can’t mix modern Japanese culture, grungy Melbourne Cafe vibes, all teamed with the signature Compass Institute ethos of bright colours, needs to visit Compass Connection Cafe. The aesthetically fun and vibrant charm the forefront of the design brings to life a colourful and psychedelic playground for staff and visitors alike. With an unconventional approach we took the best of three different styles to bring to you a combination of practicality, standout features and vibrant shades of vivid colours that ablaze every inch of this restaurant. Not only is the space one of a kind, but the employees are too, with the Compass Connections Café initiative in providing opportunities for people with disabilities with real-world hospitality experience.

Danni is one of the most amazing people to work with in helping to bring your unique vision to life. I have had the opportunity to work with her on two projects on behalf of the Compass Institute, a local disability charity on the Sunshine Coast.

Since joining Compass in 2020, part of my vision has been to find new and interesting ways to help express to our community, the beautiful, vibrant, creative personalities and the incredible potential of the young people with disabilities that we support. Through working with Danni, we have been able to transform and activate two of our unique social enterprises in Nambour – Wabi Sabi Creations in C-Square, and Compass Connections Café on Nambour Connection Road. These enterprises have now become iconic destinations in the community and have helped to attract new clientele, who subsequently have the opportunity to be transformed themselves by coming into our spaces and being served by and engaging with local people with disabilities. This has helped us to gain more exposure and further our organisational mission.

In bringing these projects to life, Danni was able to stretch out of her own comfort zone as a designer and really understand the essence of Compass and how we wanted to be represented. We worked together amazingly as a team through various design reviews, where I found Danni to be attentive to our needs, flexible, adaptive and also very engaged and creative in her approach and suggesting interesting ways to bring concepts to life. Danni was also able to adapt and work with us within a very tight budget and timeframe, and went the extra mile to make both projects successful.

I couldn’t recommend Danni highly enough for anyone wanting an incredible designer who is creative and has impeccable taste, alongside being humble, adaptable, trustworthy and a beautiful all-round human.
